Breitling is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Chronomat collection this year, and has organised an exhibition detailing the history and evolution of this timepiece over the years. As a brand, Breitling has had a longstanding association with aviation, with most of its collections being aviation-themed, such as the Navitimer chronograph. The Chronomat, too, is another instantly recognisable watch from the brand. It was created under Ernest Schneider in the early 1980s, shortly after he bought Breitling over from Willy Breitling, grandson of founder Léon Breitling. The original Chronomat was the winning product in a bid for tender issued by Frecce Tricolori, the Italian airforce aerobatics team, and became the latter’s official watch in 1983. To mark the 100th anniversary of its founding, Breitling launched the Chronomat as its flagship collection a year later. The collection has continued to evolve since then, and had the first timepiece to house Breitling’s in-house Manufacture Breitling calibres in 2009.
Of course, the history above has been summarised quite a fair bit for brevity. To get a more complete picture, you can attend Breitling’s exhibition at the Atrium at Paragon, Singapore. The exhibition is open daily between 14 and 18 August, from 1030am to 10pm, and will also feature novelties such as the Avenger Blackbird.
