2. 5 Rehearsals for a Wedding by Kray Chen

Visual artist and 2018 Young Artist Award recipient Kray Chen presents a new project on the rituals of the average Singaporean Chinese wedding. The tongue-in-cheek look at wedding rituals upends tradition and cultural clichés, challenging ways in which social practices are imbued in our culture and reflecting on expectations related to the commonplace ceremony.

3. Art From the Streets

Featuring nearly 200 works from 50 of the world’s best known street artists such as Banksy, ]OBEY and Futura 2000, this is the first major retrospective of street art in Southeast Asia. The exhibition traces 40 years of street art history and spotlights emerging Southeast Asian street artists.

4. DISINI

With a festival of programmes, outdoor sculptures and murals by home-grown, regional and international artists at Gillman Barracks, ‘DISINI’ features highlights such as captivating outdoor artworks located across various spaces, a multi-functional artist-designed pavilion with a series of exciting and stimulating programmes. ‘DISINI’ is organised by Chan + Hori in partnership with the National Arts Council. The region’s first large-scale and ground-up visual arts festival will launch tomorrow 26 Jan in conjunction with Art After Dark x Singapore Art Week 2018 at Gillman Barracks.

5. Light to Night Festival 2018

National Gallery Singapore, 1 St Andrew’s Road and the Civic District
27 & 28 January 2018

Singapore’s Civic District will be painted in a dazzling array of colours as it transforms iconic cultural institutions and parks into a creative canvas with spectacular works of art. In its second edition, the Festival is a precinct-wide event spearheaded by the Gallery, together with four other partners – The Art House, Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall, Asian Civilisations Museum and The Esplanade. Visitors can also enjoy interactive light projections, immersive colourscapes, illusionary play with mirrors, and participatory indoor works and performances that span seven programme zones in the precinct.
