Used only by the wealthy for illumination during medieval times, the chandelier was once a symbol of luxury and status with its sophisticated look based on ring or crown designs. These days, chandeliers are found mostly ornate and do not serve lighting purposes.

Now, Swarovski has partnered up with IDEO to offer a chandelier that marries form and function. A multidisciplinary group of industrial and UX designers, brand experts, and engineers created the Infinite Aura Swarovski Crystal Ceiling Pendant by layering technology onto Swarovski’s experience with luxury lighting.

Infinite Aura Swarovski Crystal Ceiling Pendant: Marrying Form and Function

The innovative design of the Crystal Ceiling Pendant features the infinite reflection of crystals and light. IDEO and Swarovski lined the metal ring inside with dazzling Swarovski crystals that reflect light emitted by LEDs that are integrated into the chandelier. Reminiscent of a disco ball, a mirror glass plate placed in the center of the ring reflects the Swarovski crystals and light, creating a kaleidoscope of mesmerising patterns.

More Than A Pretty Ornament

The new lighting line adds greater functionality and emotional resonance to today’s smart buildings, while retaining Swarovski’s timeless elegance.

The supporting app gives users control over the mood and function of the chandelier. With the app, users can manipulate lighting modes that offer distinct lighting effects, breathing new life to the century-old lighting concept that simply sat unchangingly.

At the touch of one’s fingertips, the smart chandelier assumes lighting modes to create sophisticated retail spaces, subtle ambiance at your favourite romantic dinner restaurant, down to functional true quality light for reading or work. The smart chandelier offers high-quality functional lighting that is able to be directed downwards for focusing on tasks, or upwards and downwards to create warmer atmosphere – contrary to its predecessors that largely served as ambient lighting.

The Infinite Aura Swarovski Crystal Ceiling Pendant is available this summer at authorised Swarovski Lighting retailers from US$2000 (wall sconce model) to US$5000 (large pendant lamp model).
